Welcome to Art by Anne Gilna- These pages will show you a sampling of my artwork. Birds and Botanical Paintings in Watercolor: My subject matter consists of birds and botanicals that are will known in my part of the world: Eastern North America, and specifically northeastern Illinois, where I live. All of my paintings are done life size, and I am careful to depict the birds (and an occasional butterfly) in their natural, familiar settings. I enjoy choosing designs that represent all seasons of the year. My original artwork is framed using archival, top-quality materials.

Portraits in Graphite, Colored Pencil, or Charcoal Pencil:
My goal as a portrait artist is more than to create a simple likeness. It is also to capture the energy of the subject. I work from photographs, and while it is helpful to meet the subject it is not necessary, as long as a number of photos are provided, ideally from different angles and in natural light. Of course, I have worked successfully with much less than the ideal! It is tremendously satifying to me when a client views the finished product and says, "It's exactly what I wanted!"
